Dehradun, November 1

Volunteers of Making a Difference by Being the Difference (MAD) conducted a paper bags making activity at the Rajpur Nature Festival today. Keeping in account the approaching winters, the volunteers also set up a stall where people could donate warm clothes, to be distributed among the homeless in the city.

The paper bag making activity became the centre of attraction of the nature festival, with onlookers appreciating MAD's efforts. The activity is in continuance with MAD's initiative to make Dehradun polythene- free.

Last week, in line with their efforts to decrease the use of plastic bags and promote the use of paper bags, MAD had conducted a paper bag making activity at Gandhi Park. Around 25 volunteers made paper bags in groups using fevicol and newspapers. As the group was engaged in the activity, the onlookers at Gandhi Park joined in and learnt how to make paper bags. Even children asking for alms at the park learnt how to make the bags. The members urged people to use paper bags and minimize the use of plastic bags.

The campaign to reduce the use of plastic was started by MAD in 2014 through their activity called 'Pack-up Polythene' wherein paper bags were distributed to vendors and shopkeepers at Paltan Bazaar.

MAD is a student activist group working for the welfare of Dehradun since its inception in 2011. The volunteers present during the activity were Shardul Aswal, Naveen, Shubham Bisht, Karan Kapoor and Saurabh Nautiyal.
