Man gets 3-yr RI under POCSO Act

CHAMBA: The Special Judge, Chamba, Padam Singh, today sentenced Dev Raj, alias Deepa, of Balodi village in Chamba district to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of three years for committing sexual assault under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Special Judge, Chamba, Padam Singh, today sentenced Dev Raj, alias Deepa, of Balodi village in Chamba district to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of three years for committing sexual assault under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

He was also fined Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, the convict will further undergo imprisonment for six months.

He has also been sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment for a period of one year and a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 342 of the IPC. In default of payment of fine, he will further undergo simple imprisonment for one month.

In a press note here, Public Prosecutor Anil Awasthi said the case was registered against Dev Raj on the basis of a complaint made to the police by the complainant who is the mother of the victim.

On March 22, 2014, the complainant’s husband had gone to a shop and she had gone to the fields with her son, her daughter (name withheld) aged 6 years was alone at home.
