The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, awarded an honorary doctorate degree to Reliance Industries Chairperson Mukesh Ambani at its convocation here today.

In his address, Mukesh Ambani, who is in the news for his ambitious free voice and 4-G Jio services, told students that he never goes for who is the best but for what is the best and this is his success mantra.

He urged students to make ‘what is the best’ not only for them but for their families, society, the IIT and the country as their success mantra. He said one true and strong voice that caters to the maximum number of people could change society.

Mukesh recalled the struggle of his father and said Dhiru Bhai Ambani started Reliance Industries in 1960 with just Rs 1,000. It is now the Numero uno in India.

“Becoming the number one is not easy and so is staying there at the top. Consistent efforts, thoughts, inputs, innovation, vision and team effort have made Reliance reach this level. The same is the way to achieve academic success and making a successful career. Besides, morality, honesty, integrity and willpower surely ensure success is nearing you,” said Mukesh, who has figured in the Forbes top 50 annual financial ranking of corporates list in the past few years.

Ambani gave away this year’s National Khosla award to Prof Ranjan Malik; SS Arya IIR Disaster Mitigation Award to Dr Sajal Kanti Dev and VNMS Gopal Ranjan Technology Award to Dr VM Sharma.

IIT Board of Governance president Prof Ashok Mishra termed Mukesh Ambani as a visionary who had taken forward the legacy of his father. IIT Director Prof Pradipto Mukherjee awarded the doctorate degree to Mukesh.
