As many as 20 degrees out of 24,000 were given to the old students of Panjab University who had not yet claimed their degrees after the completion of their course. The two-day mela was organised to hand over the degrees lying with the university till the 2015 academic session to the students.

As per the records of the university, 24,000 unclaimed degrees of the students of various courses are lying with the university. As per the data prepared by the examination branch of the university, 18,000 degrees were lying in the administrative block, 4,000 in various departments on the campus and 4,000 in various colleges affiliated to the university.

Controller of Examination, Panjab University, Parvinder Singh, said, “The main issue which the department faces after holding the mela is non-availability of addresses or contact number of the candidates. I will issue instructions to all departments that in future, all departments should send a list of students enrolled with them along with their contact number and addresses.”
