The Chandigarh Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) team headed by Nistha Jaiswal, along with an official of the Education Department, conducted a surprise inspection at The British School, Sector 44, today, after receiving a complaint about dummy admissions in the school.

During the three-hour inspection, the school authorities failed to produce attendance registers of enrolled students in Classes XI and XII and provide details of faculty deployed for it.

Jaiswal said as per the school records, there were around 400 students enrolled in Classes XI and XII in 12 sections, while the faculty stated that there were three sections in which around 35 to 40 students each were registered.

It was only after around an hour the faculty produced two attendance registers before the team, which too had anomalies, she said.

She said as many as 28 students were attending the physical education class when the team visited the school. The team was informed that students of medical and non-medical streams were attending this class. However, when the students were asked about their stream, five of them said they belonged to the medical stream while four said they were from non-medical stream, she said. When the authorities asked about the streams of the rest of the students, they failed to respond.

Even the teachers of medical and non-medical streams were also not present in the school. The school staff claimed that those teachers were on examination duty.

Jaiswal said the principal was not present in the school while the vice-principal refused to sign the documents of attendance and faculty when asked by the CCPCR.
