Dehradun, January 17

Thousands of pilgrims today took a holy dip in the Ganga here to mark Mauni Amavasya.

Devotees from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab arrived here early in the morning. Huge rush was seen at Har Ki Pauri.

The district administration had made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Pt Prem Prakash Balodi said, “Mauni Amavasya holds great significance in Hindu scriptures, as the Sun and the Moon are in the Tropic of Capricorn. It is considered a rare and an auspicious configuration.” — TNS
