Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul has stressed on efforts to bring about qualitative improvement in higher education in the state particularly in the sphere of alternative medicine, yoga and ayurveda.

The Governor was addressing the gathering after awarding degrees to students at the first convocation of HNB Uttarakhand Medical University held in Dehradun today. He asserted that Uttarakhand had a great tradition of yoga and ayurveda and the state had a potential to make a great contribution to it. While congratulating the recipients of the degrees, the Governor said there had been great technical advancements in the field of medicine. These advancements were robotics, nano medicine and genetic engineering. He called upon the new generation of doctors to ensure that along with learning these, they must remain sensitive to human values while treating patients.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reiterated his government’s commitment to provide better health facilities in remote areas. He said recruitment of nurses and appointments of doctors were being ensured. He also called upon the degree recipients to render their services in the state’s remote areas.
