Rlys to revamp city, Mohali stations

NEW DELHI:The Indian Railways has invited private entities to develop eight railway stations, including that of Mohali and Chandigarh, as “model stations” in the categories of “A-1” and “A” and it has already advertised for it.

The Indian Railways has invited private entities to develop eight railway stations, including that of Mohali and Chandigarh, as “model stations” in the categories of “A-1” and “A” and it has already advertised for it.

According to a written reply by Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, “The Indian Railways has advertised its plan to redevelop A-1 and A category stations on as is where is basis by inviting proposals from developers with their designs and business ideas.”

Meanwhile, the government has decided to develop 400 such stations in total and they will be taken in groups. “The entire cost of station redevelopment is to be met by leveraging commercial development of land and air space in and around the stations. The general guidelines have been issued to the zonal railways in this regard,” Sinha said.

Initiating the process, redevelopment of eight stations - Anand Vihar, Bijwasan, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Habibganj (Bhopal), Shivaji Nagar (Pune), SAS Nagar (Mohali) and Surat - has been entrusted to the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Ltd (IRSDC).

“The Model Development Agreement has been finalised by the IRSDC, which envisages redevelopment of stations, associate real estate development and their operation and maintenance through a developer, who will be appointed on the basis of a transparent bidding,” the minister said.
