Hosts St John’s, GNPS-36 lift titles

St John’s High School, Sector 26, and Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS), Sector 36, lifted the titles of the Blessed Edmund Rice Cricket Tournament for (U-12) and (U-17) Boys, respectively, here today.

In the final of the (U-12) boys’ category, the title winners defeated Ashiana Public School by six wickets. The losing side elected to bat first and folded up their innings on a mere total of 96 runs in 20 overs. Opener Anmol with his unbeaten contribution of 21 runs was the onlymain scorer for the winning side. For the bowling side, Sikander was the pick of the day for claiming 5 for 12 while Rishit supported him by claiming 3 for 15.

Chasing a modest total, St John’s School scored 100 runs for 4 wickets in 19 overs. Shaurya guided the team to victory with his contribution of 28 runs while Vasu contributed 21 runs in the team’s winning total.

For the bowling side, Ishan claimed 2 for 23 while Abhishek grabbed 2 wickets for 15 runs.

Rishit who claimed 12 wickets in the tournament was adjudged as the best bowler while Shaurya for scoring 130 runs was named as the best batsman of the championship.

Meanwhile, in the boys (U-17) final, Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, defeated DC Model School, Panchkula, by 33 runs.

After winning the toss, Guru Nanak Public School posted 135 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. Monar laid the foundation of team’s total by scoring 66 runs off 55 while Yuvraj posted 40 off 52 runs. For the bowling side, Ravi claimed 1 for 27.

In reply, the losing side fell out for 102 runs with Diyansh (17-runs) and Shivam (12-runs) scoring a major share. For the bowling side, Arjun claimed 4 for 15 while Yuvraj took 2 for 11. Arjun for claiming 14 wickets and Monar for scoring 170 runs, in the tournament, were adjudged as the best bowler and batsman, respectively.
