Shoolini University has bagged a prestigious project worth Rs 1.2 crore from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

Under the project, it will carry out research in particle physics, including the ‘God particle’.

Dr Suneel Dutt, a faculty member, School of Materials Science and Physics, Shoolini University, has been instrumental in bagging the project.

The university, along with three other partner institutions — IIT Madras, IISER-Pune and IIT-Bhubaneswar — have been awarded the project. It entails a research grant of Rs 20 lakh for setting up a research laboratory on high performance computer simulator at Shoolini University. The project will also enable the students to undertake collaborative research at European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN).

Founded in 1954 near Geneva, CERN operates the biggest 27-kilometre long Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest particle accelerator. It is a premier research facility working to uncover the mysteries of particle physics. It is worth mentioning that the ‘God particle’ scientifically known as Higgs Boson was discovered at this lab in 2013.

Dr Dutt’s area of academic research is experimental high energy physics and he was a guest scientist at the prestigious Fermilab Particle Physics Division before joining Shoolini.
