Six drug peddlers get jail term

PATIALA:Five women and one man were awarded jail and fine in separate cases by local courts here today.

Five women and one man were awarded jail and fine in separate cases by local courts here today. Two of the convict women were awarded 10-year jail and one lakh fine each by the court of Justice Gulzar Mohammad. Both accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Kaur of Dhainthal village and Ajmer Kaur of Bijalpur village. They were accused of carrying 56-kg poppy husk in 2013.

In the second case, Resham Kaur and Geona, both residents of Hoshiarpur, have been awarded three-year jail term and Rs 30,000 fine each by the court of Ravdeep Singh Hundal. Both women were arrested for ferrying 50-kg poppy husk in May 2013.

In the third case, Paramjit Kaur of Rohti Channa village, has been awarded jail term for five months and Rs 1,000 fine by the court of Parminder Singh Grewal. She got arrested in May 2014 with 5-kg poppy husk and 200 intoxicant tablets. In the fourth case, Hari Singh of Dilawarpur village was awarded two-year jail in a case of recovery of drugs in February 2015.
