Setting yet another precedent of fastest trials in the District Courts’ history, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shalini Nagpal completed the entire evidence in a snatching case, involving repeat offenders, in a day. The hearing of the case, which began only today as the charges were framed during the previous hearing and the prosecution closed the evidence.

Public prosecutor Manu Kakkar examined a total of six witnesses today and closed the evidence making it one of the fastest trials. The case has now been adjourned to February 3 for final arguments.

The case was registered in September last year.

The case involves two accused Keenu and Vijay, who were arrested for threatening and robbing a gold chain of Divyajot, a resident of Sector 21.

Divyajot was parking her vehicle near her house when the two snatchers approached her and asked her for an address. The pillion rider then pulled two gold chains and also threatened her. The two were found to be repeat offenders and thus Section 413 IPC (habitually dealing in stolen property) was added in the FIR of robbery (Section 392 IPC).

The prosecution had stated that the two had committed a number of chain snatchings in the city.
