Palwal, July 15

Commuting on the 53-km stretch of the KMP Expressway between Palwal and Manesar is no longer free now with toll collection coming into force today.

Surender Deshwal, an official of the HSIIDC which has built the stretch, said a commuter would have the convenience of paying for half the distance only if one was travelling a distance of 25 kilometre. He said the company allotted the work was required to pay a penalty in case it defaulted in collecting the toll from today.

However, the commuters travelling the full distance will have to pay Rs 70 for one-way journey from Palwal to Manesar or vice versa.

Admitting that the toll collection has been delayed by over three months, Ashok Sharma, DC, Palwal, said the toll had been fixed after a survey regarding the frequency of usage by commuters.

Meanwhile, the first day of toll collection was marked with an untoward incident when unidentified persons stormed the toll collection booth and damaged its windowpanes this morning.

But the situation returned to normal after the police intervened. While a case has been registered, cops have now been posted cops at the site, said the DC.
