U-14 girls’ hockey team gets warm homecoming

The U-14 girls’ hockey team of Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, which brought laurels to the institution by securing third position in the All-India National-Level Hockey Tournament of the CBSE organised at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh from December 12 to December 17, received a warm homecoming at Doraha yesterday.

They were brought in for a procession in an open jeep from Market Road of the town with the beat of dhols. They were garlanded by residents of the town and the school authorities. The team was selected after securing second position in the CBSE North Zone Hockey Tournament held at Mehta Academy, Amritsar.

Harpratap Brar, vice-president of the school, not only congratulated the winners, their parents and the coach but also exhorted them to be better prepared the next time so that they might bag the first position in the nationals and find a place at the international level, too.

Prabhdeep Kaur was selected the best player among all teams. The same team of 18 girls secured first position in cultural performance as well at the inauguration ceremony of the tournament.

“It is an honourable moment not only for the school but also for the entire town,” said Roop Brar, president of the school.

Colonel Rupinder Singh Brar, vice-president Harpratap Singh Brar, manager Tarlok Singh Jaggi, Yogeshwar Singh Mangat, treasurer Harjiwanpal Singh Gill, Rajinder Singh Khalsa and all committee members felicitated the winners.

School principal DP Thakur was also overwhelmed with the achievement of the students. The principal appreciated their efforts and the spirit of comradeship and participation in a healthy manner.
