The Uttarakhand Super League Football Tournament will begin on June 15. The tournament is being jointly organized by the All India Football Federation and the Uttarakhand State Football Association, said Virendra Rawat, chairman of the super league here today.

Virendra said 14 teams, 13 from each district and one extra team from Corbett, Nainital, would participate in the tournament. Winners will get Rs 15 lakh while the runners-up will pocket Rs 10 lakh.

He said, “The tournament will be a first of its own kind in Uttarakhand. Local talent will get an opportunity to show their skills. The tournament will boost the sport in Dehradun.” Franchise bidding is scheduled for May 29, with a base price of Rs 2 lakh. Bidding for the players will start from June 1. The franchise can bid for minimum four international and 15 state-level players, he said. Each franchise has to bid for minimum six local players.

Sachin Upadhyay, Divendra Batola, Shankar Sagar, Narendra Karki and other members of Uttarakhand Super League were present on the occasion.
