Nurpur, January 18

After hanging in the balance for five years, the construction of the proposed bus stand at Nurpur could not be started despite Transport Minister GS Bali’s directions to officials to start its construction while laying the foundation stone on January 3.

He had publicly announced that tender work had been awarded to a contractor and sufficient funds were made available to carry out the construction of the bus stand. The Bus Adda Development and Management Authority (BADMA), which had been entrusted the task of the construction of the bus stand, is yet to initiate the construction work. Inquiries revealed that the authorities concerned were yet to hand over the site plan-cum-drawing to the contractor who had been awarded the work. The construction of the bus stand has not moved forward after its foundation laying ceremony.

Locals criticised the government over the delay in starting the construction work. Vijay Sapiya, divisional manager, HRTC, Dharamsala division, said the design of the bus stand had been approved and the work had been awarded to the contractor.

Some drawing modification proposals had been submitted to the BADMA for final approval and soon the construction would be started, he added.
