18K students recite shlokas in K’shetra

Nearly 18,000 students recited 18 “shlokas” from 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita during the concluding day of the fourth edition of the six-day International Gita Mahotsav here on Sunday. The event was organised by the Kurukshetra Development Board at the Theme Park in the city.

Addressing the students, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said: “Over 100 amendments and improvements have been made to the Constitution from time to time, but the essence of Gita is eternal and shall remain relevant to every country and culture for all times to come. The Bhagavad Gita is an eternal scripture and its teachings show the right path in every situation.”

“The Gita Mahotsav is being celebrated in several countries too. It was great to see the children recite shlokas and I wish that a smaller version of the three-day global chanting event could be organised in every district across the state. The world would be observing international anti-corruption day on Monday and we can eradicate corruption and other problems by adopting the teachings of Gita,” he added.

The reciting of ‘shlokas’ from 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita by 18,000 students during International Gita Mahotsav last year has been recorded as a world record in the World Book of Records, United Kingdom. The Chief Minister congratulated the children for the record and provided them medals for it.

The speakers urged students to imbibe teachings of the Gita to be responsible citizens. Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani, MP Nayab Saini, minister of state Sandeep Singh and local MLA Subhash Sudha were present on the occasion. — TNS
