Beastly act: Horse ‘strangled’ in Jind

A ‘berserk’ horse was beaten with sticks before being strangled by a violent mob in Jind city today. The horse reportedly struggled for life for more than 10 minutes.

Sources said a few journalists were present on the spot and recorded the incident on camera. An official said timely information to the district authorities could have saved the life of the animal.

The incident took place near the market on the busy Gohana road in Jind and local police personnel were present at the spot. A video of the incident is available with the district administration, which has suo motu ordered a police probe into the matter.

Sources said residents, including shopkeepers, noticed a stray horse attacking commuters and damaging property. Eyewitnesses claimed the police were informed about the horse ransacking the area, but no animal expert from the Animal Husbandry Department was informed.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri said Jind SP had been asked to book all, including the police personnel who saw the horse being killed. “It is a shocking incident. We have accessed a video detailing the presence of police personnel and others seen killing the horse. We will identify the culprits and ensure legal action,” he said.

2 cops sent to Police Lines

Jind SP Pankaj Nain shifted two policemen to the Police Lines after the killing. A spokesperson said ASI Rajinder Kumar and Special Protection Officer Subhash, posted at the Civil Lines police station, were seen at the spot.
