Ambala, August 14

Cantonment Board Municipal Councillor Surinder Tiwari along with his supporters staged a dharna outside the Ambala Cantonment police Station here on Tuesday.

Tiwari alleged that he had reached the police station on Monday night to get a complaint registered against a person who had allegedly attempted to attack him, but no action was taken on his complaint. In the morning, he got information that a case had been registered against him on the complaint of the person.

Tiwari said, “On Monday evening, I was at a religious event in a temple. Johny Sonkar asked me to come with him as he wanted me to meet his children. On the way, Sonkar called some people and said that they would teach me a lesson since I speak against minister Anil Vij. He threatened to kill me.”

On the other hand, Sonkar reached Housing Board police post and gave a complaint against Tiwari. He alleged that Tiwari forcibly sat on his motorcycle. As they reached near Khatik Mandi Chowk, Tiwari abused, thrashed and threatened to kill him without any reason.

Tiwari alleged that it was a well-planned conspiracy against him.

He said the police kept on saying that his complaint would be registered, while the complaint of Sonkar was registered at the Housing Board police post, which is under the Ambala Cantonment police Station.

Later in the day, Tiwari was arrested by the police and produced before a magistrate in Ambala City where he was granted bail.

Vijay Kumar, SHO, Ambala Cantonment police station, said that the matter was being investigated.

It is pertinent to mention here that Tiwari was once considered close to Vij, but later their relations turned sour and Tiwari had opened a front against the minister.
