Raped girl delivers baby, abandons her

Days after a newborn girl was found abandoned on roadside in the town, it has been found that she was born to a 13-year-old girl, a student of Class VII, who was allegedly raped.

The girl’s parents, who are migrant labourers from UP, said they had no idea that their daughter had been raped and had got pregnant. The girl continued to attend school as usual. By the time they realised that the girl was pregnant, the pregnancy had reached an advanced stage. The 13-year-old girl eventually gave birth to a baby girl, who was allegedly abandoned by the family.

The matter came to light when the abandoned baby girl was found and traced to the family. The victim and the newborn have been admitted to the local PGIMS, where she was being counselled by the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

As per the police, the girl is still under trauma and no case has been registered as of now.

Raj Singh, CWC chairman, said, “The girl and her parents are afraid of the consequences and are not cooperating with the police. We are trying to convince them to cooperate so that the culprit can be identified and punished.”
