MC holds cleanliness contest

KARNAL: The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) is holding a cleanliness competition among establishments in various categories till December 15 to improve its performance in the Swachh Survekshan-2018 to be carried out in January.

The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) is holding a cleanliness competition among establishments in various categories till December 15 to improve its performance in the Swachh Survekshan-2018 to be carried out in January. The KMC has divided these categories into hospitals, schools and hotels, market and resident welfare associations to decide the best establishment.

Karnal had secured the 65th rank in the Swachh Survekshan-2017, which was conducted in 434 cities and towns of the country in January and February this year, improving from the 123rd rank in 2014. It had also received a special award for being the cleanest city in North India under the category of 2 to 10 lakh population, said Mayor Renu Bala Gupta.

“To get the maximum marks in this survey, the KMC has set a specific criteria for different categories. For hotels, they have decided to monitor the entry and exit gates, segregation and lifting of garbage, compost pit, rooms, toilets, wash-basins, greenery, maintenance of tiles, separate toilets for staff etc,” said Priyanka Soni, Commissioner, KMC.
