The proposed civil airport in Ambala Cantonment will have flights to Srinagar, Lucknow and Delhi. Flights to Srinagar and Lucknow have been awarded to Zoom Air and the operator to Delhi is yet to be decided.

Under the Udan 3.0 scheme of the Centre, a domestic airport will be constructed in Ambala Cantonment. Land will be acquired in Garnala or Barnala and the runway of the Air Force station will be used.

“A civil airport will be developed by the Centre. A team of the Airports Authority of India carried out survey of land for the purpose. The team identified land in Barnala and Garnala villages adjoining the Air Force station,” said Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij.

“Ambala is a junction and a large number of people reach here daily for business purposes. It will be a successful airport and more industry willdcome to Ambala after construction of the airport,” he said.

A five-member team had carried out the survey in December. During the last visit, the team was not allowed to conduct a survey inside the Air Force station as local officials said there was no information from the head office.
