Viral fever grips Jhajjar; 11,000 cases reported

City residents are in the grip of viral fever these days with the health authorities recording 11,000 cases of fever across the district in a month.

Nitin Gupta, District Epidemiologist at Jhajjar, confirmed this. “Only 12 cases of malaria were detected up to July 22, while the number was 33 in July 2015,” he said.

The health authorities claimed to have made arrangements to prevent vector-borne disease such as malaria and dengue. They said there was no need to worry about the outbreak of viral fever as it had become a routine in tropical climate.

Sources said most of the patients visiting Civil Hospitals in Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh with the symptoms of throat infections, cold, cough and fever were suffering from viral fever.

The situation is no different in villages of the district, as several people are visiting private and government hospitals, complaining about fever, body ache and related symptoms.

A private medical practitioner at Dighal village said the cases of fever had shot up considerably in two weeks after the first spell of rain. “A significant number of people not only in Dighal but also in surrounding villagers are in the grip of viral fever. It is spreading rapidly as it is contagious,” he added.

Gupta said: “Besides Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh, 133 teams of health officials are conducting surveys in villages to educate residents about precautionary measures.”
