Man held for raping cousin

A 20-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin in a forest area falling under the Sundernagar police station here on Sunday evening.

The accused has been arrested and will be produced in a court on Tuesday.

According to information, the incident took place when the victim was on her way to home in a bus. The accused was travelling in the same bus. When she alighted from the bus at Chalog Chowki, the accused started chasing her. He allegedly dragged her to a forest and raped her. The accused fled the spot after committing the crime.

The victim later narrated the incident to her parents, who lodged a complaint at the Sundernagar police station.

DSP, Sundernagar, Taranjeet Singh said the accused had been booked under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC.
