At least 27 political appointees engaged in various boards, corporations or public sector undertakings (PSUs) by the previous PDP-BJP government resigned from their posts on Wednesday.

In tune with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), 25 political appointees have submitted their resignations, which have been accepted by the Governor. The services of two other political appointees were terminated on July 9, a government spokesperson said.

Following the imposition of Governor’s rule last month, the state government had asked all administrative departments to implement the SOPs, leading to resignation of members and chairpersons of various statutory and non-statutory boards and organisations.

Only Wakf Board vice-chairman Nizamuddin Bhat, who is also a senior leader of the PDP, is yet to resign as his appointment is regulated by Section-9 of the J&K Specified Wakfs and Specified Wakf Properties (Management and Regulation) Act, 2004.

The previous PDP-BJP government had engaged 28 persons in posts of chairperson, vice-chairperson and deputy chairmen in various boards or corporations or PSUs in the state.

The state government had on March 10 last year approved the appointment of vice-chairpersons for 16 PSUs facing financial crisis. Out of the 16 vice-chairpersons, nine belonged to the PDP and seven to the BJP.
