Avalanche hits police post in Kulgam, 10 missing

SRINAGAR: At least ten J&K policemen were trapped after a snow avalanche hit a police post near the Jawahar Tunnel in Kulgam on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Thursday evening.

At least ten J&K policemen were trapped after a snow avalanche hit a police post near the Jawahar Tunnel in Kulgam on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Thursday evening.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, Harmeet Singh told The Tribune that a massive avalanche hit a police post, in which 10 policemen got trapped. He said the rescue operation was on to find the missing policemen.

Heavy snowfall continued in the Valley for the last 24 hours, causing a complete disruption in both air and road traffic. The authorities have issued warnings in the avalanche-prone areas and have asked the residents to remain vigilant.
