Secretary, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Department of School Education and Literacy, Anil Swarup called on Governor NN Vohra here today.

Swarup informed the Governor about the measures being taken by the MHRD for the advancement of school education and spread of literacy in the country.

As the state has faced difficulties since the early 1990s and the irreparable damage to the education sector due to recurring disruptions in academic schedules, the Governor stressed the importance of every required step being taken for improving the quality of school education in the state.

The Governor sought Swarup’s sustained support and also discussed with him problems relating to temporary and inadequately trained teachers and the need for efficient implementation of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.

The Union Secretary also briefed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti about the initiatives taken by his Ministry for strengthening the education sector in the state. The Chief Minister impressed upon the Union Secretary to adopt a systemic approach to further strengthening the education system in the state.

She sought more technological, monitoring, delivery and inventional interventions from the Centre to further improve the quality of school education in the state. This integrated approach, she said, would also help students hone their personality traits or career skills in a better way so as to become the responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Mehbooba also sought more student exchanges so that the students of the state would remain abreast with the changing educational scenario in rest of the country.

The funding for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, midday meal scheme and strengthening of the school infrastructure also came up for discussion.

Education MinisterSyed Altaf Bukhari, Chief Secretary BB Vyas, Principal Secretary to the CM Rohit Kansal and Secretary, School Education, Farooq Ahmad Shah were also present on the occasion.
