Deceased havildar Baljeet Singh is a resident of Dinger Majra in Karnal district of Haryana.

The gunfight erupted in the wee hours when joint teams of security forces launched an anti-militancy operation at Ratnipora area of Pulwama after an input about militants’ presence.

“In the gunfight, one unidentified militant has been killed so far. We also lost a soldier of 50 Rashtriya Rifles,” a senior security official said.

A Junior Commissioned Officer of elite 10 Para was injured in the gunfight. He had been shifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, he said.
