Security forces averted a major tragedy today by timely spotting and defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) in Pulwama district.
The explosive device was fitted inside a pressure cooker and kept inside a small ditch at Kandizal village of Pulwama district, near the Pampore railway station. According to police reports, the explosive devicewas spotted in the wee hours of Wednesday by CRPF personnel during a routine patrol. “The explosive device had been fitted inside a three-litre pressure cooker,” a senior police official said.
He said a bomb disposal squad was called and the IED was defused without causing any damage. On January 6, four policemen were killed in Sopore town of north Kashmir in an IED blast. Following this, at least two IEDs were spotted and defused in the Parimpora area, on the outskirts of Srinagar city. Ahead of January 26, the militants have carried out several grenade attacks as well, fortunately with no fatalities.
