GA Mir will continue to remain J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president for the second term.
As per an order issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Janardan Dwivedi, the existing presidents of all Pradesh Congress Committees will continue to remain in their posts. He said the decision had been taken by AICC president Rahul Gandhi.
The JKPCC has welcomed the move as Mir had taken over as its president in March 2015. The Congress leaders hailed Rahul for the decision. JKPCC vice-president Mohammad Anwar Bhat termed Mir a visionary and a dedicated political leader of the state, who “enjoys full support of the rank and file of the party, especially the people in all three regions.”
JKPCC spokesperson Farooq Andrabi said Mir was leader of masses, a visionary and dedicated political leader of the state, who had put strenuous efforts to strengthen the party from grassroots level in all three regions.
Meanwhile, Mir today visited Halsidar, Dodwagan, Koote and other places of the Dooru Assembly segment in south Kashmir.
Addressing workers, he said the ruling dispensation had “crossed all limits of misrule and misgovernance” as people were being “made to suffer in every respect.” He said, “people of the state are the victims of misrule and mis-governance, feeling exploited, betrayed and backstabbed by the PDP-BJP government.”
