There are 612 unmanned railway crossings in the Ferozepur division, which is the highest in the northern sector. This was admitted by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Anuj Prakash while speaking to mediapersons at the Phagwara railway station here on Saturday.
He said to prevent train accidents, low or limited-height subways would be set up at such crossings under the Ferozepur division. He said the unmanned crossings will either be manned, removed or low-height subways (LHS) would be set up to prevent accidents. He said the LHS project has been being initiated in a few sections. He said the work on this project would be completed within
three years. Meanwhile, a deputation of industrialists and other citizens submitted a memorandum to the DRM demanding the stoppage of Malwa Express, Swaraj Express, Chandigarh-Amritsar Superfast and Jammu Rajdhani at Phagwara for the benefit of industrialists, NRIs and other passengers of the Doaba region. — OC
