Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma today said Dr BR Ambedkar would be ever remembered by one and all as a far-sighted leader who gave wings to the idea of women empowerment by enshrining the equal rights for the women in the Indian Constitution.

The DC while presiding over a seminar on Dr Ambedkar’s role in Women Empowerment held on the campus of Maqsoodan CT Institute, said Baba Sahib raised the voice for women and underprivileged sections at a time when they were being subjected to complete humiliation and exploitation.

Recalling the immense contribution of Dr Ambedkar in women empowerment, he said that no one could ever forget the contribution made by Dr Ambedkar for the empowerment of women. Sharma said the seeds of women empowerment in social, political and economic arena were sown by Dr Ambedkar due to which they were excelling in almost every field of life.

Highlighting the importance accorded to women education by Dr Ambedkar, the DC said the founder of the Indian Constitution desired the quality education for all in general, and women in particular, because he advocated that an educated woman could lay the foundation of educated and prosperous society. Sharma said Dr Ambedkar’s fight was not against any particular community but it was a fight against the menace of casteism. The great service done by Dr Ambedkar was in no way less than the statesmen of world like Mao, Lenin, Dr Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, added the DC.
