The city’s Inner Wheel Club has taken up the initiative of spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene among women and the underprivileged sections of the society. Working towards its mission for the betterment of girls and women, the club today sponsored and installed a new sanitary pad disposal machine at the Prayaas School for special children.

Stressing on the need of the menstrual hygiene, Inder Kiren, president of the club said, “Many women and girls use old cloths and towels to manage menstruation. The lack of menstrual hygiene can lead to infections in the urinary tract and in the reproductive system.”

So it is necessary to make girls, especially in the rural areas, and in the special schools understand the importance of the menstrual hygiene, how to make use of sanitary napkins and its disposal, she added.

She said, “The machine which costs Rs 21,000 has been sponsored by PDCs Vineeta Seth, Adarsh Sood and Asha Paul."

Besides, the club also distributed essential items, including under garments, toilet cleaners, sanitary pads and kids’ diapers to the students at the Prayaas School.

“Nutrition, education and cleanliness are three pillars of good health and if they are taken care of, most infections and diseases can be prevented,” Kiren said adding that awareness about the menstrual cycle and related problems is not sufficient and more work on the ground is needed.”
