The Punjab and UT Mulazam Sangharsh Committee today burnt copies of the Budget, which was presented by the government.

Employees said they were shocked to see that there was no mention of staff working on a contractual basis in the Budget.

Ashsih Julaha, one of the members of the union, said they had been protesting in demand of regularisation of services but the government did not even care to mention even a single word regarding the contractual employees.

The employees while burning the copies raised slogans against the government and said it was now clear that the government was not serious about their plights.

It is not for the first time that the contractual employees held a protest. Earlier, on the New Year, the members had organised a dharna.

‘Chaedheya nava saal, par Punjab de mulazim halle vi behaal’, this was the slogan which was used by contractual employees from various departments while protesting against the government on the New Year. They said they had been demanding regularisation for long, but to no avail.

To protest against the state government, the contractual workers had also held a ‘shok sabha’ (condolence meet) of the Congress’ manifesto which was released by it before the Assembly elections. The members during the sabha, which was held in Mohali on August 4 last year, said promises made by the government had not been fulfilled.

They have been demanding implementation of the regularisation policy for long.

They said thousands of employees in the state had been working on a contractual basis and were getting low salaries.
