Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma exhorted the farmers on Thursday to avail the subsidies on farm implements to efficaciously tackle the menace of paddy straw burning in the district thereby making the district pollution free.

The DC said in order to encourage the farmers to ensure paddy straw management, the government was providing huge subsidies to the farmers for purchasing the ultra-modern equipments that could be useful in effective paddy straw management. He said farmers must avail these subsidies to bring the much-needed revolution in the agrarian sector by effective utilization of the paddy straw to replenish the soil. Sharma said the state government was offering 50 per cent subsidy to individual farmers on equipments like happy seeder, super straw management system, mulcher, paddy chopper shredder, MB plough and others.

The DC further said the state government was also providing 80 per cent subsidy on these implements in case the farmers constitute a group or society for using these machines. He said it was the need of the hour to ensure that farmers maximized their income from the available resources by adopting new and innovative techniques for crop diversification. Sharma said these implements could transform the destiny of farmers, who were already facing acute crisis due to limited land holdings, escalating costs of farm inputs and diminishing profits.

The DC said use of modern techniques in agriculture could help to ensure that the food growers reap maximum profits from diversification of agriculture. He said the subsidised agricultural tools including mulchar, happy seeder, super SMS, reversible play, zero tiller, rotavator and others could be very helpful to farmers by ensuring waste management in fields.
