JALANDHAR: Former Rajya Sabha MP Jagjit Singh Anand (92), who passed away last night, was cremated with state honours at the Model Town cremation ground.



Jalandhar, June 20

Former Rajya Sabha MP Jagjit Singh Anand (92), who passed away last night, was cremated with state honours at the Model Town cremation ground.

He had suffered a brain stroke and was hospitalised for the past four days. His son Sukirat Anand performed the last rites.

People from different political parties attended his funeral. Since Anand was a Communist leader, various youth leaders stood carrying red flags as the last rites were being performed.

Among those who attended the funeral were CPI leader Joginder Dyal, Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, MLAs Manoranjan Kalia, Pargat Singh, former Jalandhar MP Mahinder Singh Kaypee and former MLA Jagbir Brar. — TNS
