Vice-Chairman of the National Safai Sewak Commission Hans Raj Hans on Saturday asked the district administration to evolve a proper mechanism by introducing new welfare schemes to safeguard the interests of safai sewaks in the district.

Presiding over a meeting of the district administration here on Saturday, the Vice-Chairman of the commission said the need of hour was to protect the interests of this weakest strata of society.

He said no stone would be left unturned to ensure the well-being of the safai sewaks in the country.

Hans said safai sewaks were in fact the backbone to accomplish the mission of Swachh Bharat.

The Vice-Chairman of the commission said the state governments across the country should implement welfare schemes for the safai sewaks in the right earnest.

He said this was the right time to transform the lives of these people, who have suffered a lot in the past, by taking remedial measures for their protection.

Hans said the interests of the weaker and underprivileged sections of society need to be secured, for which the Commission was already working dedicatedly.

He exhorted officers to act as guardians of safai sewaks in the state and said the former need to sensitise themselves to safeguard the interests of the safai sewaks in the district. He said laxity on the part of officers in this regard was not desirable.

Hans was welcomed by Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Parveen Kumar Sinha, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Diparva Lakra and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal.
