Meet for food processing units

Sukhjit Mega Food Park, being set up at Rehana Jattan village, organised an investment promotion meet here today for showcasing facilities being created by the park and inviting food processing units for investment in the park.

Bhavdeep Sardana, director, said the park had been sanctioned by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GoI. It will create affordable lnfrastructure for the food processing industry, besides facilitating direct procurement of various crops, including perishables.

Promoter of the park Sukhjit Starch and Chemicals Limited is also setting up a 600 TPD maize processing unit in the park as its anchor unit. It will create a huge demand for maize, a low-water intensive crop, which will help in breaking the wheat paddy cycle in the state. It will not only save the depleting water table of the state but also save the region from stubble burning.

He said the project was in its advance stage and was expected to commence its operations by the last quarter of this financial year. Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda was the chief guest for the event.
