Jalandhar, April 28

Thieves broke open an ATM of Canara Bank near Bhogpur today and decamped with Rs 55,000 kept inside the machine.

The CCTV footage retrieved from the site revealed that the thieves first put a cloth on the CCTV camera and later cut open the ATM.

This is the latest in the ongoing incidents of breaking open of many ATMs in the region. Thieves had broken open a Punjab and Sind Bank ATM near Reru and decamped with huge amount of gold, jewellery, property papers and cash money.

Over 18 ATM thefts have so far been reported in the district in the last one year, with police not achieving much success to nab the accused in many cases.
