The Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road remained blocked for around three hours today by the family members of a youth Vinay who had died on Saturday in a road accident on the Hariana-Dasuya road.

The police registered an FIR against the unidentified driver but the family members protested alleging that the arrest of the car driver was being deliberately delayed by the police.

A large numbers of people gathered on the road and started raising slogans against the police, laying a blockade on the main road, parking tractor-trailers. After receiving information about the road jam, heavy police force arrived at the spot from various places including Hariana, Bullowal and Bhunga.

DSP Satinder Chadda assured the protesters of stern action against the accused but the protesters stuck to their demand of not removing the blockade till the arrest of the accused. Later, the DSP assured the protesters that the police had arrested the driver of the car, Pradeep Singh of village Gag Sultan (Dasuya). It was only then the protesters relented and removed the blockade.

The protesters continued to raise slogans and even warned that the body would not be cremated until the police arrested all the accused.
