The city today gave an emotional farewell to 21-year-old Sandeep Singh who was shot dead by some unidentified assailants last week outside his home in the Mississippi area in the USA.

Relatives and neighbours of family had gathered at the Deep Nagar crematorium to bid farewell to the youth.

His younger sister Sharandeep Kaur applied henna on her deceased brother’s hand lying lifeless in a coffin that had arrived late night at her house.

“I had never imagined in my wildest dreams that I am going to tie ‘sehra’ to my brother this way,” said the wailing sister who kept on hugging her brother till the pyre was lit.

Meanwhile, her father and mother too went numb on seeing the body of their only son who had got a house constructed for them in just three years of his stay in the USA. Her mother even lost consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital. It was only after she got stable that she was brought back after two hours.

“He was a very caring son. He got a house constructed for us and was saving money to hold a gala wedding for her sister. His untimely death has shattered us badly,” said Balwinder Singh, father of Sandeep.

According to Col Tarsem Singh (retd), a close friend of the family, the police were yet to arrest the accused who shot Sandeep dead outside his home in Jackson city in the Mississippi area.

Sandeep Singh had migrated to that country three years ago. His father Balwinder Singh, a Punjab Police head constable, said he was working at a relative’s store.
