Jalandhar, December 21

Gazetted and non-gazetted SC/BC Employees Welfare Federation (Punjab) has decided to stage a state- level rally at Phase VIII in Mohali on December 23 to protest the decision of the state government to take back an order that does not consider reservation under the roster system as a case for seniority.

The meeting was presided over by the state chairman of the federation Jasvir Singh Pal at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall. Addressing the gathering, he said the federation planned to gherao the Vidhan Sabha if their demand was not met.

Pal said a letter was issued on October 10 by the personnel department, which according to him, was unconstitutional. To get the letter annulled and demands like scholarship for Dalit students, implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations, fixing of unemployment allowance at Rs 1,000 per month, getting reservation in promotions, regularisation of jobs and free education for all, accepted by the state government, the federation plans to take this step. — TNS
