PHAGWARA: The Sadar police have registered case under Sections 420 and 506 of the IPC against a fake travel agent Harwinder Singh of Lambapind village for allegedly duping six persons of Rs 53.63 lakh on the pretext of sending them to Canada.



PHAGWARA: The Sadar police have registered case under Sections 420 and 506 of the IPC against a fake travel agent Harwinder Singh of Lambapind village for allegedly duping six persons of Rs 53.63 lakh on the pretext of sending them to Canada. The case was registered on the complaint of Narinder Singh of Pandori village. Senior Superintendent of Police Satinder Singh said Narinder Singh told the police that he gave Rs 13.5 lakh to the accused for sending him to Canada, while his friends Kulbir Singh gave Rs 8 lakh, Mangal Singh Rs 9.36 lakh, Sarabjit Singh Rs 10.27 lakh, Kuldip Singh Rs 5 lakh and Naresh Kumar Rs 7.5 lakh for sending them to Canada.However, neither the accused could send them abroad nor returned their money. No arrest has been so far. OC

Man duped of Rs 6 lakh

Goraya: On a complaint lodged by Resham Lal, a resident of Apra village, the Goraya police have registered a case under Sections 406,420 and 120B of the IPC against Romesh Lal and his daughter Kiran, both residents of Banga, and Suraj Kumar, a resident of Mandi, on the charges of duping the complainant of Rs 6 Lakh on the pretext of sending his son Satnam to Canada. The Police are investigating the case. OC

Girl sets herself on fire

Phagwara: Reena Kumari (25) reportedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire after sprinkling petrol on her clothes at her uncle’s house at Miherru Colony, behind Lovely Professional University (LPU), on Thursday afternoon. Jagtar Chand, uncle of the deceased, has been running a karyana shop in front of his house. He was away to Phagwara at the time of tragedy.  Satnampura SHO Surjit Singh Pattar, said Jasbir Kaur, the wife of Jagtar Chand, Randip Kaur, daughter of Jagtar Chand, and Sehajdeep, son of Jagtar Chand, also sustained burn injuries while dousing the fire.   Reena succumbed to her injuries, while the condition of other three was said to be stable, said the SHO.
