Jalandhar: While swine flu has already claimed two lives in Jalandhar, another woman, suspected to be suffering from it, died on Saturday. Meenakshi Sehgal (38), a Sheikhan Bazaar resident and wife of a journalist of a city daily, who fell ill a few days ago, had been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, from Jalandhar where she died on Saturday. She is survived by her husband and two children — a daughter and a son. With two deaths of confirmed swine flu patients and three of suspected patients already having taken place in the district, this is the sixth death from the disease. tns
Man commits suicide
Phagwara: Kuldip Singh Syan (49), a scribe belonging to a vernacular newspaper, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his residence at Chachoki village on Saturday afternoon. He was also working with an insurance company and was reportedly under stress due to job-related issues. He was first admitted to a local hospital then sent to the DMC Ludhiana where he breathed his last late in the evening. oc
Three hurt in clash
Phagwara: Tension prevailed at Government Labour Colony here when an MC team went to remove encroachments at the place on Friday. Three persons were injured in a clash over the issue of parking of rehris. They were identified as Martunjay, Manish and Anil. They were later admitted to the local Civil Hospital. The police have registered a case. oc
