“Once an actor, always an actor’... pretty much sums up Kulraj Randhawa’s love for acting, when she was asked if she found it difficult to face camera after a gap of more than two years. Referring to the suicide rumours that was doing the rounds on various web portals, she says, “I was absent of course from the scene, but I wasn’t dead. I went back to Canada and was learning various aspects of film-making while working with mainstream English production houses there.” 

Kulraj is making a comeback with Punjabi film Naukar Vahuti Da. In Chandigarh, along with Binnu Dhillon, she adds, “It is the emotions that people relate to and emotions need no dialogues. I can give you a story with no dialogues and still it will appeal to the audience. My story can be translated into any language,” she adds. Kulraj has already been part of Hindi movies like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Lucky Kabootar. Her views come across as crystal clear, “If you make enough movies about social issues or a message-oriented movie, and also support it till its release, I think it is guaranteed that audience will accept that as well.” 

Bucking a trend

On the other hand, Binnu Dhillon turns towards post marriage issues with the movie Naukar Vahuti Da, which releases on August 23. He says, “I am very much the same guy that the title of the movie suggests and I take pride in sharing household chores with my ‘Vahuti’. The film addresses the issue of increasing divorce rates in society. Also, when we go through separation, it is the children that we forget about and how it affects them, which we have highlighted in the movie.”

From playing villain to doing comedy to becoming the lead actor, Binnu Dhillon accepts the journey has been long, but never once in his 20 years has he shied away from criticism. “My circle is full of people who keep me grounded,” he signs off.
