Ludhiana, December 12

The police remained on their toes after the police control room received a call about a girl’s kidnapping at Samrala Chowk today. However, it turned out that the girl had run away from her home at Fazilka a few days ago and her relatives forcibly took her along after her phone location was traced to Samrala Chowk.

A passer-by who noticed the girl being bundled into a car by her relatives had called up the police control room.

The moment the police got the kidnap complaint, the police stations of Division 3, Division 7 and Moti Nagar rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to trace the girl. They heaved a sigh of relief when they came to know that the girl was taken along by her relatives only.

A police official said a passer-by informed the police that four persons had kidnapped a girl at Samrala Chowk. He also gave the police the registration number of the car. A high alert was sounded in the city and nakas were set up. Several CCTV cameras were checked to get a clue to the kidnappers.

The police official said they got the car owner’s details from the Transport Department and came to know that it was owned by a Fazilka resident. The car owner told them that his daughter (22) had run away from home a week ago and a complaint was also lodged with the Fazilka police.
