The Ludhiana Commissionerate registered three rape cases at various police stations on Saturday.

The first case was registered at Tibba police station against Chand Alam, a resident of Darbanga, Bihar. Sixteen-year-old complainant, a Class IX student and a resident of Tibba Road told the police that she met the accused in Sabzi Mandi on Rahon Road about two years ago, where the accused proposed her for marriage, but she refused then.

Later, the accused kept following her, following which she developed friendship with him. On May 1, when she was heading to school, the accused stopped her on the way and forcibly took her to his relative’s house in Jangirpur, where he raped her. “My exploitation did not stop here. He kept exploiting me and even threatened me of dire consequence if I revealed anything to the police,” she said.

Investigating Officer SI Kiran Lata said the accused was arrested.

In another case registered at police division number 5, a man identified as Sonu of Mundian has been booked by the police for raping a 17-year-old girl. The girl alleged that she was friends with the accused for the past some time. On May 8, the accused took her to Park Blue hotel, where he raped her. The accused is yet to be arrested.

The Model Town police also registered a rape case against one Charanjit Singh Dhillon, alias Tarni, of Lohara, for raping a 29-year-old girl. The girl alleged that she became friends with the accused about nine years ago. She said the accused kept exploiting her sexually on the pretext of marriage. Now, the accused refused to solemnise marriage with her.

The victim said she had to cancel two of her marriage proposals due to the accused, despite getting engaged. Even in February, when she got married, the accused kept harassing her, due to which her husband took divorce from her.

The accused is yet to be arrested.

Two booked for sexually exploiting minor girls

The Haibowal police have booked a man identified as Ravi of Haibowal for sexually exploiting a 7-year-old girl. Her father alleged that on May 2, when he returned from work, his daughter revealed that when she was playing at the house of the accused, he put a blanket on her and tried to exploit her sexually. In another case, a 14-year-old girl was sexually exploited by an unidentified person. Complainant alleged that when she went to a shop to buy a pen on May 10, an unidentified person stopped her on the way and hugged her tightly from behind. She could not identify the man, she said. The police have launched probe to identify the culprit.
