Hundreds of anganwadi workers staged a protest against the state government outside the Congress candidate Captain Sandeep Sandhu’s office at Mullanpur-Dakha on Wednesday. The workers alleged that the Congress government failed to fulfill their demands.

Hargobind Kaur, president, All Punjab Anganwadi Employees’ Union, said they had conducted meetings with the government authorities multiple times but their demands were not met. She said they came to mark their protest outside the Congress candidate’s office today.

She said the Centre had increased the honorarium of anganwadi workers but the state government did not contribute its share. “The anganwadi workers are forced to mark protests, demanding full honorarium be released to all the workers,” she said.

“Some workers also met Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today. The government should fulfill its promises at the earliest,” she said.

Hargobind Kaur said, “We campaigned in several streets of Mullanpur-Dakha, requesting the people not to cast vote to the Congress as the state government failed to fulfill its promises.”

Meanwhile. a man passed derogatory remarks against the protesting members. The protesters tried to catch him, but he managed to escape.
