Police Commissioner RN Dhoke today stated that the ban on wearing masks while riding two-wheelers would continue for the next two months.

In a statement issued here today, Dhoke said if the police allowed people to wear masks while driving vehicles, their identification might be a tedious task in case they commit any heinous crime. Even a pedestrian will not be allowed to wear any piece of cloth on his/her mouth, he added.

A few days ago, residents had met Dhoke and requested him to lift this ban, citing the present air pollution caused by smog. Residents had then given the logic that wearing masks while riding motorcycles or even while walking on roads is a must these days as air pollution caused by stubble burning could cause serious health issues.

The CP has also banned the use of government department logos or police logos on private vehicles, saying that anti-social elements may misuse these logos to commit any crime. Using these logos may invite action against the person owning the vehicle.

Dhoke also directed the shopkeepers selling police, Army or paramilitary forces uniforms to maintain the proper record of buyers. “Shopkeepers have to submit monthly sales register at the police station concerned. Non-compliance of the orders may invite legal action,” the CP added.

In the recent attacks in Punjab, terrorists were wearing Army uniform.
