The prices of vegetables lowered to a great extent after a gap of almost 4-5 months, bringing relief to the consumers.

Talking to The Tribune, one of the retail vendors at Dandi Swami Road, Gurmeet Singh said the rates soared high after Rakhi and now after 4-5 months, these have come down. The vegetables will be cheap for another 3-4 months, he said.

The price of onions, which had touched Rs 65 per kilogram have come down to Rs 40-45 per kg, while tomatoes too have witnessed a decline from Rs 60 per kg to Rs 45 per kg. Potatoes are now available at Rs 15 per kg instead of the earlier price of Rs 20 per kg. The price of peas has come down from Rs 200 per kg to Rs 100 per kg. Similarly, cauliflower which was earlier sold for Rs 100 will be available at Rs 50 per kg. Coriander, which was available at Rs 200 per kg earlier, will now be available at Rs 100 per kg. The price of ginger has also reduced from Rs 200 per kg to Rs 100 per kg.

“The process will remain stable for 3-4 months and new produce has started arriving in mandis. Vegetables from local market like Malerkotla and Hoshiarpur will also start arriving now, making the prices more reasonable,” said the retailer Gurmeet Singh.

Kamlesh, a domestic helper said she used to get onions for Rs 10 or 20 as the prices were on the higher side.
